About the Presentation

Community Health Council works in settings of poverty with the goal of primary healthcare for all. CHC’s Community Health Clinics are places people can go for primary care in regions of extreme poverty. Since 2012, CHC has treated over 35,000 patients across Haiti and Peru and provided 5 patients HIV antiretroviral therapy for life. At their founding, the Community Health Council had one goal: to provide basic healthcare to those who did not have regular access to it. They began by holding mobile clinics, working with partner organizations, local medical professionals and volunteers from the United States. Focusing on those who could not make the trip to the doctor or for whom it was extraordinarily difficult, like those in the remote communities of Loreto, Peru, CHC brought the clinic to them.

In 2014, CHC expanded their mobile clinics into the mountains of Haiti. Hours outside of Port-au-Prince, they met the wonderful people of Oranger, Zorange and Fayette, Haiti, who forever changed the course of CHC. After working with local Haitian physicians, they learned that as many as 55% of the doctors in Haiti are unemployed. This was the impetus for the next phase of CHC: Health through Empowerment, which works to empower local doctors to start clinics in settings of extreme poverty. CHC works with local doctors and nurses to open clinics in the areas where the needs are most dire.

This presentation explores the concept of partnering with local medical professionals to provide sustainable, consistent and effective primary care in developing nations.

About Our Speaker

Nick Glasnovich is a co-founder and the chairman of the board of trustees for Community Health Council. As a marketing and communications professional, Nick leaves the healthcare protocols and patient care to CHC’s medical professionals. Instead, Nick works to coordinate domestic & international partnerships, development strategy, fundraising and non-medical operations, where he leverages his previous experience working with small farmers in the Colombian rainforest to efficiently bring their crops to market. These operations include mobile clinics operating the village of Belen, Peru outside of Iquitos and in Oranger, far into the mountains of Haiti, as well as the logistics needed to build permanent facilities in remote areas.

Nick balances his work with Community Health Council with his career as the Head of Creative & Digital for the New York-based communications firm, Sloane & Company.
