William Sladen, MED 78, has notified us that he will be an “Arctic Tern” for seven months traveling to Alaska’s North Slope with biologist John Whissel on a grant from Conoco Phillips. They will be marking Tundra Swans and fitting some with satellites and conventional transmitters. These swans make an 8,000 mile round trip migration, breeding with swans in the Northwest Territories and then wintering in the Chesapeake Bay and North Carolina.
